How to Vote in the General Election

Updated: Mar 24, 2021

Governor Murphy declared that the 2020 General Election in New Jersey will be conducted primarily by mail because of the COVID-19 pandemic. You may choose to vote in person at your polling place, from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on election day, November 3rd, but you will receive a provisional paper ballot. A provisional ballot is only counted after it is determined that the voter is eligible to vote. There will also be ADA compliant voting machines available for those who certify they have a disability that prevents them from voting independently on a paper ballot. All voters at the polling place must be masked and adhere to social distancing guidelines.

All registered voters will receive a ballot by mail regardless of whether they want to vote. The voter does not have to solicit the ballot. Ballots were recently mailed, and voters began to receive them as early as October 2nd. Contact the County Board of Elections if you do not receive a ballot. To find out more information, you can visit Burlington County Board of Elections website here.

The ballot should be completed, signed, sealed, and returned. The Board of Elections will compare the signature to the voter rolls. If the signature is absent or does not match the signature on file, the Board of Elections will contact the voter to verify the vote. The process of signature verification will begin on October 13th and will continue four days per week until completion.

The ballot can be returned by US Mail if it is postmarked by November 3rd and received prior to November 10th. It can be hand delivered to the Board of Election by 8pm on November 3rd. Additionally, the voter may place the ballot in designated drop boxes by 8pm on November 3rd. There is a dropbox set up in front of the Mount Laurel Municipal Building, located at 100 Mount Laurel Road. The voter may also hand deliver the ballot to their polling place by 8pm on November 3rd.
