At the April 26th Regular Meeting, the Mount Laurel Township Council recognized two young women for earning Girl Scout Gold Awards. Savana La Rocca and Tanya Das were commended for receiving the prestigious Gold Awards, which are considered to be the highest achievement an individual can acquire. Savana completed a service project to educate her school and community about childhood obesity - its causes, prevention, and management options. She also held webinars focused on healthy eating and exercise habits. Tanya completed a service project called INSPIRIT (Innovation and Natural Scientific Pursuit of Independent Research). The goal of her project was to empower underserved students to create innovative solutions to clean up marine debris. She hosted a workshop which was attended by over 450 students. The students were able to pilot a concept and successfully build a remotely controlled vehicle to remove debris from rivers.
The Mount Laurel Township Council also adopted an ordinance finalizing a lease agreement with Volunteers for Paws Farm Inc. The non-profit organization had expressed interest in gaining access to the property in order to work on preserving the buildings, maintaining the property, and performing necessary upkeep. While this agreement does not allow for the farm to re-open and operate as it had done previously, it will allow Volunteers for Paws Farm to maintain the property and prevent deterioration. The lease will last for six months and allow the township to extend the lease on a one-month renewal term.
