On Monday April 12th, the Mount Laurel Township Council introduced an ordinance for first reading which will lease the Darnell Property, known as PAWS Farm, to Volunteers for PAWS Inc.
As the Mount Laurel Messenger reported previously(here), multiple rounds of Requests for Proposals(RFPs) for the future operation of PAWs Farm had been submitted to the township. Concerns about the property, and maintenance of the buildings had been expressed at previous council meetings. After review, none of the submitted RFPs scored high enough by an independent group to be considered viable solutions.
Even though there were no suitable proposals for bringing back PAWS in its entirety, the township listened to the residents’ concerns about the maintenance and upkeep of the property. A lease was proposed that would allow the Volunteers for Paws Inc. to maintain and improve the property for an initial period of six months. The township would then be able to extend the lease on a one month renewal term.
The Council will officially vote on adopting this lease agreement at the next Council meeting to be held on April 26th. If adopted, this ordinance will make official the lease between Mount Laurel Township and the Volunteers for Paws Inc.
