Last year, Mount Laurel requested $250,000 from the Burlington County Municipal Parks Grant Program. This past January, the Grants Program awarded money to townships throughout Burlington County. Mount Laurel received $175,000 of the funds requested to be used on reconstructing basketball courts at Mill Run, installation of additional play equipment at Laurel Acres, replacing equipment at the Bretton Way Tot Lot, and connecting the township’s community garden to the public water supply. While Mount Laurel was awarded partial funding, many towns throughout the county were not awarded any money when the awards were first announced. Since then, all towns that applied for money received some grant funds.
Even though Mount Laurel Township’s award amount was $75,000 short, the Township will be using Mount Laurel Open Space Funds to ensure that all the projects get completed. In 2019, Mount Laurel Township taxpayers paid $1,888,676.73 into the Burlington County Open Space Trust Fund, the most of any town in Burlington County. There were other towns in the county that contributed less to the county but still received their full request of $250,000.
Mount Laurel Mayor Irwin Edelson stated, “I am pleased that Mount Laurel was allocated some of the money requested so that we can continue to make improvements to township amenities.”
