The ever busy intersection at Union Mill Road and Academy Drive will be getting a traffic light. Township Council reviewed a recent traffic study that showed a signal at that intersection is now warranted. “That intersection has been a concern of ours and residents for some time as it has become much busier. Now that the criteria are all met for a traffic signal, the Township will move forward with the installation”, said Mount Laurel Mayor Irwin Edelson.
Safety improvements were made to the intersection a few years ago with a future traffic signal in mind. “During rush hour, it is difficult to traverse the intersection especially if you are trying to make left turns,” said Mount Laurel Councilman Kurt Folcher. Besides vehicle traffic, there is a lot of pedestrian traffic at the intersection. The Township will issue a bid for the work around mid-November and depending on weather and potential pandemic delays, the light should be installed and operational by the Spring of 2021.
